Kazakh cosmonaut Aidyn Aimbetov in Germany
Aidyn Aimbetov is the last Kazakh cosmonaut who went to space. We had the luck to meet him at the “Tage der Raumfahrt” in Neubrandenburg.
Cosmonaut Aidyn Aimbetov waited very long for his first spaceflight. He – a very skilled military and test pilot – was selected in 2002 to become an cosmonaut. But he had to wait 13 years to get a flight to leave our blue planet. He went with Soyuz TMA-18M to the International Space Station in September 2015 and spent close to 10 days in space. Today, he is still the last Kazakh cosmonaut who took part in an spaceflight.
We tried already multiple times to get in touch with him for an talk in Kazakhstan – but unfortunately it didn’t worked out. But this year we good our opportunity: The cosmonaut joined the “38. Tage der Raumfahrt” in Neubrandenburg, Germany.
We took our train from Leipzig to Neubrandenburg and meet him. It was a pleasure to talk with him and to get some updates about the current status of Kazakhstan’s spaceflight industry. Thanks for the great opportunity to Cosmonaut Aidyn Aimbetov and the Raumfahrt Concret Team.
