Do you know that Shymkent is the chess capital of Kazakhstan and many citizens love to play this old board game?
In today’s photo, two older men take advantage of the warm autumn weather to play a game of chess in Shymkent’s central park. The game, invented in northern India in the 6th century AD and later spread to Central Asia, is the most popular board game in Shymkent. Due to its popularity, the quality of the game is at a higher professional level and is a good foundation to produce some very good chess players. So there are many grandmasters like Tamara Klink or Rinat Jumabayev who were born in Shymkent.
