Monument of Courage in Tashkent
The Soviet-style “Monument of Courage” is a reminder of the horrible and destructive Tashkent Earthquake in 1966.
On April 26, 1966, a magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck and almost completely destroyed the city of Tashkent. This event killed up to 200 people and left around 200,000 people homeless. The Soviet-style “Monument of Courage” in the city center of the Uzbek capital was erected in 1976 and commemorates this terrible event.
