Metallurgist’s Palace of Culture
The Metallurgist’s Palace of Culture is one of the most beautiful buildings in the style of post-war socialist classicism in Shymkent.
One of Shymkent’s largest employers in the mid-20th century was the Soviet Union’s largest lead factory. The profession of many people in Shymkent at that time was metallurgist. The Metallurgists’ Cultural Palace and a surrounding park were built in 1957 to improve the lives of these workers. The building was built in the style of post-war socialist classicism and is one of the last remaining buildings in Shymkent with this specific architectural style. The Metallurgist’s Palace of Culture is currently part of the Miras University campus.
