The Shymkent War Memorial, with two endless long black stone slabs inscribed with the names of fallen Kazakh soldiers on either side of the main path, commemorates the incredible losses of fighters from the southern Kazakh region during World War II who fought thousands of kilometers from their homeland to win Nazi Germany.
